Nervous and Worried

On March 12th I have a hearing before a judge for my Social Security Disability.  Everything hinges on my testimony.  I am Nervous as HELL!

My testimony must convince the judge that I am disabled and deserve my Social Security benefits.

I do have a lawyer or advocate, but I am still nervous.  There is so much to tell and yet I am worried I won't have the words to tell it all.  It is like my writing, the words are difficult to grasp.  I hope the more I write (type) that it will help me find the words and allow me to express myself and tell my side of things.  Enough so that it will convince the Judge that I do deserve my Social Security benefits.

So, if you would, please wish me luck, cross your fingers (and toes), or say a Prayer that all goes well for me next Tuesday the 12th of March.

Lost and Found.... Maybe

Some readers have wondered what has been going on for the last year and a half.  Wondered why I have rarely written anything and what has been happening in my life.  It is hard to get into the telling, part of it is depression, some of it is due to the fact my medications have robbed me of my creativity, and another part is I lost interest.

I have talked about depression before in the distant past.  I have even written a bit about my medications taking away that which made some of my writings varied and interesting (at least to me).  The lost interest is due to a combination of both the depression and the missing creativity.  How do you maintain an interest in something when you feel down and out, and can't think of a thing to write?  That is why I haven't written, I was and at times am LOST.  

I want to get the old me back.  The me that had two mini-series going, Letters from Thomas and Dime Store Detective.  Both series were/are some of my best writing.  The thing that made them happen was just sitting at the computer and typing.  They were spur of the moment things, nothing that was written down before hand. Not being able to do that because of being in a dark place in my life and not being able to create or have a coherent thought made it near impossible to keep an interest in doing the thing that I was loving. 

I know as I sit here and put this all into a form of writing, it sounds disjointed and rambling but I have to try.  It is the only way I know to help me get back to the old me and open the door for more interesting things.  

So I ask you, my readers (what few of you there are now), to just stick it out with me as I find myself, the creativity, and the interest I lost.  I will endeavor to write on a regular basis, even if it is just to get out a short bit of what is going on in the Winfield household.  Believe me when I say even that could get interesting, I just have to find the words.  

Any suggestions or ideas that you would be interested in reading about, please feel free to ask.  It might help get the juices flowing so to speak.

I got JACKED

Well, not I but my debit/credit card got JACKED.

Imagine our surprise this morning checking out our account to make sure we had funds for the School shopping and finding three charges that did not look right.

We immediately called the bank and come to find out they had frozen my card because of questionable charges.  The three we saw were the ones that got through.  $180.00 in charges from the Dominican Republic.

Luckily the bank (USAA) caught it and stopped additional charges, some even coming from Mississippi and who knows where else.  The bank will reimburse us for the $180.00 that got into the account but just the thought that it happened is bothersome.

Not to mention having to wait 3-5 business days for the funds to be reimbursed and waiting 7-10 days for a new card.

Questions run around your head:
Who could do this?
How did they get my card number to use it?
Where did they get my card number from?

I rarely if ever use my card online so it couldn't have been that.
I wonder if it could have been from using my card at one of the retailers I regularly visit?
The answer may never be known.

It does cause a queasy feeling in the pit of your stomach, knowing that someone had access to your money and you didn't know it until they damage had been started.

Luckily our bank is working with us and it isn't going to cost us anything but time, waiting for the funds to be returned and a new card; and the frustration that it actually happened and we (J, I and the bank) have no idea how they got it in the first place.

Consider this a Friendly WARNING:

Keep an eye on where and how you use your card so that this does not happen to you.

With everything going on in our lives -- as if we needed something like this....... Damn, if it just doesn't stop.

Blog Who_ing, Rememberance, and a Rant to an END

The day has come ----

Anything at Anytime is SOOOOooooo near the 100 followers mark it isn't even funny.

So, I guess this is the day I ask all that follow me to give me a big, Big assist and get you all to see if you can help me do a bit of what we have all come to call "Blog Whoring"......

I have been sitting at the 90s up and down for some time but this is the nearest I have been to breaking the 100 level.

With a bit of your help and suggestions to those that follow you I would ask that you Look in and find one of your Favorites that I have written and posted here on this site and link to it and ask them to look around and follow if they like what they see.

From reading all of you that have gotten there and been near the mark that first 100 is something we Really truly enjoy.  Its like running and completing your first Marathon, or the first time you tied your shoes on your own, or that first kiss that just..... Well, I think you get THAT idea.


Now for something that was missed Yesterday and  a SAD Ending today!

Yesterday was the 42nd Anniversary for Apollo 11 -- Landing on the Moon - the First time MAN set foot on a Planetary object other than Earth!

The courage of those associated with that program and those on the flight brings back thoughts of the mariners that sailed the oceans not knowing what awaited them.

So, a Salute to those that made it happen and gave DREAMS to SO MANY --- THANK YOU ALL!

These are the Lucky Few that got to take that last Flight
and in my opinion
Have a Special Place in History

As a Child (relatively Newborn as I was only 7 1/2 months old) I was (as told by my Mother) placed before the TV to see the Moon Landing.

Maybe, just Maybe it was due to that, that I have always found a desire to go up there, be there.

It is a Sad thought that now, we have NO real means READY to take the place of the Shuttle and put us up in the regions we belong.
Don't get me wrong, there is still plenty to do and learn here on Planet Earth.
But.........
Our Future is Space!
Our Future is to Explore our Solar System with more Manned Flights as the Sailors of the past.  Space is our Ocean of Exploration and it Drives Technological advances far beyond normal expectations.

We as a People - Mankind (as a Whole) needs to do this and be there.

25 yrs of Service for the Shuttles -- two major accidents (out of how many Missions) that sadly lives were lost....... Isn't that what Exploration is?  Knowing there could be cost, even catastrophic ones?
But, we still go on to explore and learn from those before us.

Why, WHY have we not worked on a replacement/improvement to the Shuttle Program that could have gone active at the end of the Shuttles' uses?

Now, we are left to rely on either other Countries or Private Companies to come up with the means.  Some of that could lead to Good things because some of the Best improvements have come from the Private Sector, but at what Cost?  I am not talking about Personnel loss/cost but Monetary Cost....

We need to form a Collective - a Collective of Science and Engineering that will work together for the Sole purpose of Space Exploration --- Damn the Nationalities and the Whose Country Governs!
All Scientists and Engineers in the field working together Under No Specific Government.  Yet All Governments responsible for the safety and protection of said Grouping.

We DO NOT Live in a PERFECT WORLD!
However, if we could get the Scientists and Engineers from around the World working together, could that not be a lesson to ALL of us from?

We NEED to be back into Space on a regular basis and not just floating around in our own immediate little corner.  The International Space Station is a start but we need to go further - MUCH Further!

I know this is turning into one of my RANTS but this has also been a DREAM of Mine for YEARS.......

There used to be a show called "1999" or something similar to that - and guess where they had the scientists and engineers gathered for it?  A sizable space station on the MOON --- It is still doable today.  More so than when the creators of the show imagined it.  The means are here for us to do it today.

Why haven't we done it?
Ask our Governments.

A station like that on the moon could mean -- better training for Astronauts/Cosmonauts in actual environments they would be dealing with, a Launch site that could be used to Launch many different types of Manned Missions further out and beyond........
The Things WE could learn just blows the imagination out of this World.

Sorry, but my Rant on what I feel is a Sad day for MANKIND with the Ending of the Space Shuttle Program.
NASA has done a Fantastic job with what they had available...... But, WE can do so much more and this should not have been allowed to end.

Now to let you know what has been going on here in El Paso, TX.

As some of you know there was a massive storm/cold front that hit a large part of the US this last week, what you don't know is how unprepared some places were for this even with a week to two week notice.

There were times this last week when El Paso was Colder than Anchorage Alaska!
(No Shit -- 2 1/2 days)

Our fantastic Electric company El Paso Electric decided not to do anything to prepare their 8 generators here in El Paso.  So, when the storm/Cold front moved in on Tuesday afternoon generators went down and Rolling black outs commenced around the city.

All the while El Paso Electric  was saying its not our fault we weren't ready.  Our system was designed for extreme High temperatures not Lows.

Bull Shit - Bull Shit - Bull Shit!!!!!!!

With a week to two week notice -- and I will be nice and say they only had a week -- there is No Way this should have happened!

Granted the Generators are outside so that the High temps don't overheat the units but when Winter time gets here you should Insulate the Exposed Piping that are not near the Core of the Generator.

After 4 years in the Navy Working in an Engine room in EXTREME Heat and Cold the insulation is not that hard to put on to units if you take the measurements of your pipes and mark locations.  It then becomes a quick job of wiring them up or taking them off and storing them for the next season.

The CEO of El Paso Electric says they wouldn't do anything differently after this fiasco but we the consumer/Customer will have to foot the bill when they raise the rates to cover their SCREW UP!!!!   This from a Company that made a 60.2 Million dollar Profit for the last fiscal Quarter of last year!

Take your Damn Profit and Fix your Facilities at your Expense,  NOT OURS!!!!!

Then, with the Rolling Blackouts, they ended up shutting down parts of El Paso Water Utilities Pumps -- Results of standing water in Pipes with Temperatures around 3-6 degrees Fahrenheit with a Wind Chill temperature running around 17-22 BELOW 0????!!!!!!?????!!!!!!

You Guessed it -- BURST Water pipes all over the city.  We have been on Water Restrictions and Boil Water orders since Friday/Saturday.

Schools have been closed since Weds. of last week due to the temperatures and the water problems.

Hopefully, Schools will be open tomorrow but if they can't guarantee safe drinking water at the schools I wouldn't be surprised if they stayed closed for a day or two more until they were certain it was safe to drink straight from the fountain.

A company like El Paso Electric that has a Monopoly here in the area that makes a profit off of us like this should have been better prepared and all of the Crap - Yes, CRAP - they are passing around as Excuses is just outrageous!

Anyway, it has been an interesting, if not Frustrating week trying to keep the family warm and with drinkable water for the last week but things are slowly looking up.  SLOWLY.

Man, am I tired of those.  Tired of Writing about "Them" as well!

I need to write something Worthy of Your time rather than (what seems as of late) Constantly gripping about my Crappy Luck.

It is hard sometimes but even when the Luck is Bad I try and look at it like: "If I don't get it Someone is going to and I know I can "Handle" it - to a degree."  It still wears on you - like a bearing without grease, eventually its going to lock up and "Freeze".

Enough of that -- I go there I am going to ------------------ (Use one of Bruce's wonderful words there.)

(Oh, you don't know Bruce -- his site is "Stupid Stuff I see and hear" ***WARNING*** Very Verbal Creative with Certain Words - if you take exception to profanity stay away.  If you have No issues with profanity - It is an AWESOME site of just plain Stupid CRAP that is going on.  So when I mention "Use a Bruce Word" or some such mention, you will get the idea.)

Between Car Windows, Dr.'s Assistants, lack of (insert a Bruce Word) money, and My (another Bruce Word) Luck; I feel like a ..... well, I just want to take it out on Something, Someone!

Hell, if "THE BIG GUY" were down here in front of me right now -- I would take a Monster Poke at his Nose (if THE BIG GUY has one), I would Lash out with all I have.  Not that it would get me anywhere but getting it out of my system and letting HIM know my Patience has Snapped!

It is one thing to "Turn the Other Cheek" - I do that often enough.  It is a totally different thing to let yourself or your Loved Ones be "ABUSED" - I don't care who you are: THE BIG GUY on Down - I will stand toe to toe and Tell you so and try to shove it right back up your (USE Several Bruce Words here).

I Want to get back to writing something GOOD or at least descent.
I don't want to be locked into a Blue Mood Crappy Post because Depression is trying to get a foothold.
I Want my Wife to be able to Breath and Relax!

I don't want to say this but in all fairness to this Post I must:
I am Glad my daughters are seeing this.  (I know sort of strange.)
Here is why:
With my daughters seeing this all happen, they get to see What Mom and Dad do Right during times like this, and they see the Wrong.  Where that is a benefit, is that if they EVER find themselves in a similar situation they will have an idea of "How to" and "Not How to" handle it.  (My opinion - A Good thing to see and learn).

Well, I am going to finish here as I need to cool down just a bit before I call the Dr.'s office and see if the Assistant got off her Butt and has done her Job.  Been two hours and she still hasn't called to say she got it FIXED and I am on NUKE Mode.

So, Before I make a Totally idiot out of myself I need to get a cup of coffee and CHILLAX before making that call.

I'm TIRED!

Have you ever gotten TIRED of Something?

I mean just Worn out doing something over and Over as if you are butting your head against a stone wall 20 feet thick?

I'm not talking about work and the dull routine some of us get (or in my case "got") locked into on a regular basis,  I'm referring to Life feeling like it is constantly beating down on your shoulders like a drummer keeping a steady beat in a never ending piece of music or like a Jack hammer that just won't shut off.

I am talking about that feeling where as soon as Something goes your way and there is a glimmer of hope or light just around the bend and just as you get there Something, Anything, jumps up and Bites you in the ASS!

I'm TIRED of it!!!!

I've Bitched at my Wife about My Luck.
I've Bitched at my Parents and In-Laws about My Luck.
I've even Bitched at God about My Luck!

Wife can't do anything about it she is locked into it with me.
Parents and In-Laws can only commiserate with me about it,

God, Well, Sometimes I wonder....... They say he only test you as far as you can go and then is there to help and handle it.  Why allow a broken record to keep repeating itself?  What Lesson are you trying to Teach?  If I haven't figured it out by now Damn it!  Give me a Freaking Hint already!

My Luck has shown its Ugly face again and as always its not Good.
Should have known it.  Should have Expected it!
When something Good comes my way it is almost (Never Fails) Always Followed with a Slap in the ASS and No, it is not the good kind of Slap in the Ass.

Christmas was Good, Unexpectedly Good, as something came our way that made it much better than we had hoped for.  Things Looking Good and, well, not Great but GOOD enough that there was breathing room.  Deep Down I was Expecting it (My Luck).  Deep Down I was Hoping, Praying it would Pass me (Us) bye this time.

NOT!

J and I went to my Dr. Yesterday.
Health wise, all is as good as can be expected.  My O2 Sat. (Oxygen Saturation {Oxygen in blood}) is/was 85%, not bad but the Number should be about 95% or above.  Expected that,  Part of my Life now.

The Office visit went Well enough and had a good conversation with the Dr.  Got my New Prescriptions and scheduled my next appointment (He, Dr., wants once a month but financially I got him to understand once Every 3 Months).

Went to go drop off the prescriptions,
That is when the Breathing Room I mentioned became a Plastic Bag over Our Heads!

New Year, New Insurance, New Damn Freaking Deductible!!!!!!!

What's Weird is that I am not really Pissed about the Money.

The Timing!

Three months from now it would make us Tight, but Now!?!?!?!?  Feels like a Ship with 20 holes in it and you only have 15 Plugs to fill them with!

I am TIRED!
TIRED of this kind of Luck happening to me and mine Every single time.
TIRED of Hearing my Wife say she "Isn't doing enough." when I see her killing herself to keep the Ship afloat.
TIRED of Hoping a Miracle can Happen again and Again.  (You can only dip in that well so many times before it goes dry!)

Depression - it is a Gorilla and I have the feeling I am looking at a 1400lb Silver Back right in the Eyes.
Boy is he UGLY.

But...

One thing I know, There are Others out there Worse off than I am.  It's a Given.  I have No Doubt about that.
Therefore, I am not Allowing That S.O.B. to jump on my Back.
"Been there, Done That!", It ain't happening again.

Somehow, Someway, we will get past this.  I don't know how, but we Will.  Just TIRED of being HERE so Damn often.

Give Her a Break.  The Look in her eyes says it all (she won't say it, but I See IT) and I need help Helping her.  I already breath bad enough, she doesn't need to suffocate with me.

Just Wrong

Today J and I went shopping and I noticed a few things that were Just Wrong.


Just Wrong #1


Most people drive bad enough as is on a regular basis, the Christmas shopping season is Not a pass to Drive even Worse.  
Seriously,  Come on.  At Least LOOK where your going and wave with a malicious smile when you cut someone off from a parking spot or Pull out in front of them.


Get real out there People, Please be aware of your surroundings when you are driving and try to be courteous.




Just Wrong #2


Line jumping.  Now this one just Pisses me Off to Universal proportions.  A store full of people and half of those are in line(s) to get to the register and make their purchase and go home or more shopping AND some idiot feels he/she has the right, Nay, the authority to Cut lines because He/She is "in a Hurry" and act like they have done nothing wrong.


Sorry but LOOK Here "Jack"/"Janet" - Better back the "F" up and get your butt to the back of the line.

The Guilt trip.
This one is a bit, I don't know but sort of Screwy in my book.  A person has something in their hands looking at it to decide if they want it and then put it down and move a bit down the aisle.  You of course step in and see the same item and (it is the last one on the shelf) start looking at it and the Person that just moved away steps back in and says something like "Ohhhhhh, I just put that down for a seconddddd.  It would be perfect for........."


Come On!  If you put it down and move away from it....... Damn, its Fair Game.  Don't go trying to guilt trip someone you don''t know.
(Besides it wasn't what I was looking for)


Just Wrong #4


A shop attendant that just stands or SITS growing roots in place.  A kiosk in the middle of the mall had some really interesting Leather Jewelry - necklaces, bracelets and a wide variety of stuff.  Some was really cool stuff.  J and I spent about 5 minutes talking about and looking at various bits of this stuff and there was a really cool Leather bracelet with a metal Cross stamp out on it.  Something I would have liked for me and J was cool with it so.........  Had the lady that was attending the Kiosk even once asked if we were interested I would have had a cool bracelet on Right Now.  As it was,  Good God she could have been a Gargoyle stuck on the top of Notre Dame Cathedral.  


Get Real Folks if a potential customer spends more than 2 minutes at a Kiosk (of all places) odds on they are interested in something.  You are there to Sell so Get off you Lazy Dead Backside and "ASK".
(Needless to say - I don't have a Really Cool Leather Cross Bracelet on right now!)


It is the Holidays Folks we all should be on our Best Behavior.  Do me and You a big Favor, when you are out shopping please do Your Best to set a Good Example for those that need it out there.  
You never know, it might catch on and by next year things could be better.

Now, let's get to today's Post.

The Beginning til Now

Yesterday, surfing around and checking out blogs I follow I had a few Ideas and was dead set to do a post about a project J does every single year and put it here on Anything at Anytime.  Well, I didn't get the Pictures transferred to my computer (because I still haven't figured out my new Phone yet) so I will do that in the next day or two.

Then as I was getting ready to call it a night, my Blogger Buddette/Friendy Mynx down in Australia put up a post talking about what got her started and why she does her blogs.  She then asked us what got us "Started and Why do we write?".
So... Today's Post is that.

We are at the time of year we Celebrate the most well known Birth to Man - The Birth of Jesus Christ, and it is only fitting to talk about other Births as well.

This last May, J was taking one of the Continuing Education classes that her school district offered (it was a computer class teaching Teachers how to get around the Internet and various resources), and she needed to find a Blog and Follow and Comment on the Blog.  She had (note - past tense) NO Clue what-so-ever!

Seriously,  I told her I could get a Blog started for her to follow and comment on and figured that would be it. Maybe a month at most and I wouldn't worry about it after that.  (Good God, Look where it has gone!?!)

After J had finished her class, I kept up with the blog and chatting in the google discussion boards and what nots and started following a few others and they started following me.  It has grown slowly but steadily.

I picked the name "Anything at Anytime" because I had No idea what I would write about and figured it wouldn't last that long.  No idea about what I was to write definitely was "on target".  Figuring it wouldn't last that long........ Well, You decide.  I started Anything at Anytime on May 23rd and I am quickly approaching 7 months of writing, not everyday but very near that mark.

Would like to see 5000 visits by the end of the year but......
I will live with what I have.

Looking at that Google Analytic Anything at Anytime is doing OK.  Not Great but Good.  More than I expected.

She (Anything at Anytime (call me sexist, everything is a she after being in the Navy)) has a life of her own now and I write what I feel.  As I said before in other Posts, "I don't have time for BS".  When I write, I write from the Heart.  I know sometimes it doesn't sound great all the time but "it is what it is" and I feel that is the only way to Really put something down.

After J was done with her project she commented about how I should keep it up and also suggested the Emphysema page.  She doesn't always comment but she does read everything I post and talks to me about it here at home.

Now, Anything at Anytime has become my "Job" (wish I could get PAID for it) that I Love.  I try different things and Nobody to stop me or tell me "I can't do that" - Duh..... My Site, I Just Did!

With Later Stage Emphysema, I have to face reality that I cut my life short.  How much?  I Don't Know.  That is the Scary part.

Anything at Anytime has become a way to leave my Daughters Something!  My Legacy (if you will) to them.  A means to tell them things but not "TELL" them.  Something for them to read later and Interpret on their own as things apply to their "Grown" lives if I am not around.

As I write from my Heart I know that sometimes things just don't sound right in the words - If you read my writings and you find something like that, do us both a favor, don't think what you read in your head, Use your heart and hopefully that will clear it up for you.  If not ask me in the comments.

You have all seen those Cheesy cheap cards - You know - the ones we all buy when we are in a hurry and Just have to get something?

Well, this one was NOT one of those.  It had the wording Just Right.  The Wording that tells you that the Person/People that got you THAT Card thought about it and Truly Cared about what they were sending.
It was Good enough that I am almost without the Right words to describe it.

Yesterday, I told you that I would be passing out the Award I got and as there is no Definitive number of "Pass Ons" I have decided that when that happens I will "Pass On" to 3 other Blogs.

Oh, if your wondering - to be honest - how I ran across her site?  I was adding my site to another directory and read one of their articles and she had commented and used her Blog addy as part of her Signature (something we all should do when leaving "Real" Comments).  As you all know I have Later Stage Emphysema so when I read "10minutes2breathe"....... Well, I think you get the Idea.  Needless to say, I was Pleasantly Surprised.

Nana over at Benchmark 60.  Another Clean, easy to follow site.  Nana is a Retired Education Specialist (she was a Teacher and later she was in Administration for her School District), Grandma and when she talks (types)...... Well, No BS there she tells it like it is and what is happening in her life and going on around her.
From what I have Read she has the attitude we all should aspire to when we get to a point of Retirement.

Nana has been a Follower of mine from Almost the beginning if not the beginning.  She had her site set by the time I hit the stage and she has frequently come in and commented about the growth and "Changes" to my site as she notices them.  Can't Put one Past a "Teacher".  :)

You know what it is like to see 3200 text messages on your Phone bill?

Well, Luckily, J and I had shuffled around funds and cleared up room to get unlimited "Text" messaging because we "Knew" the girls would eventually start "Texting" all the time.  So the 3200 did not hit us with a HUGE Bill but was a Surprise as that was from just my Oldest!

Stunned at the quantity was/is an Understatement!  How can you Text 3200 times when you are at school or under Mom and Dad's eyes all the time?  I mean Really?  Come On!

Again!! PISS POOR OFFICIATING in the BIG 12!

Anything at Anytime is normally a whatever comes to my mind site and I try to keep the Sports to a minimum here as I know several of you are not interested about them.

However, when things happen that are Really Good or Great in Sports I will put them on because they deserve notice and acknowledgement.  The Same goes for REALLY BAD OFFICIATING.  I wrote "Big 12 Officiating - Where has it Gone?" 19 days ago.  I went so far as to let the People at the official Big 12 website (a note to the Commissioner Dan Beebe) know that I was posting it and that I would post ANY rebuttals they may have.  No Comment from them; however I do know that I had several visits the day it was Posted from Austin, Texas which is where Commissioner Dan Beebe resides with his Beloved Longhorns.
I also informed the ESPN Big 12 Blogger David Ubben that that post was going up but did not receive anything from him on the Post either.

It is fine that they did not comment as it was a lone voice complaining about Poor Officiating.

My One Voice is not the only one Complaining about the Officiating.  Voices of multiple Fans in the Big 12 are Complaining and getting LOUDER about it.
Who is in charge of these Officials everyone is complaining about?  Why, Commissioner Dan Beebe of course!  What does the Big 12 do for Commissioner Dan Beebe - Oh, they extend his contract for another three years.  He (Commissioner Dan Beebe) destroys the conference for greed and favoritism and they award him with 3 more years.  Way to go Folks.  Smart Move!

I thought some of the Officiating during the season was Bad in the Big 12; HOWEVER, Tonight takes the cake and wins the Million Dollar Prize of LOP-SIDED FAVORITISM!

I know, you are wondering what caused this Post Tonight and so out of my ordinary posts?  I just finished watching the Nebraska Cornhuskers -vs- Texas A&M.  I was really looking forward to a GOOD game.  Hoping my Huskers would win BIG but honestly expecting a Good tight game - Something like Neb. 24 - A&M 17.

Texas A&M won 9 -6.

Had it been a Fair game as the Big 12 Conference Sportsmanship Statement states:

I would have been glad to witness a Great Defensive game, Sad to see My Huskers Loose, but glad to see a good game.  I and every College Football Fan that attended that Game and Watched that game on TV were Robbed by another Case of BIG 12 PISS POOR OFFICIATING!

It is one thing to miss a few calls and one team have a few calls more go against them than the other team.  It is a complete and other thing all together when 16 calls go against one team and only 2 calls go against the other.  16 calls totaling 140 yards of penalties against 2 calls totaling 10 yards of penalties.  Just looking at the numbers alone says the Officials were looking at one team and one team only to find anything and everything that could even LOOK like a penalty.  Some of the Penalties were "deserved" - meaning the guys did something wrong and Yes, a penalty should be levied.

That LOP SIDED -- Hard to see it and give the benefit of Human error to the Officials.  I will readily step up and say "Hey, They are Human, mistakes are made."  The Officiating was SO POOR I don't feel comfortable saying that as it had the appearance of "Giving" the game to A&M.

Bad for My Huskers Loosing, and feel bad for A&M because that takes away from a hard fought game.  People will be talking about how the Officials gave A&M the game - Not that A&M beat Nebraska.

Commissioner Dan Beebe - Does this fan deserve to have their teams victory tainted by POOR, BAD OFFICIATING?  Look what You and Your Officiating crews are doing, not just to the teams receiving bad calls, but to the Fans of Good Teams as well!




The Officials are out there to maintain FAIR Play and safety.  In my opinion - They BLEW IT!
If Commissioner Dan Beebe can not get his Officiating crews to call Games FAIRLY, he should do Two things:  1.  Ask the NCAA to step in and gain control of the Conferences Officiating Crews, and 2.  Step Down as Commissioner of the BIG 12 as he can not perform the Duties required of him as Commissioner and in accordance to the Big 12 Conference Sportsmanship Statement.

I was Tagged, Here is the Result!

Anything at Anytime --- Yeah, that is me.  Never know exactly what I am going to put up here next until the moment, urge, or desire strikes my fancy.

Before I get into today's post I would like to Thank Everyone that Stopped in and Commented (or tried to) on my daughter's Birthday Post.  Third time I have done that and each time has gotten several comments from all corners of the Globe.  Maybe one day I can get it to where we have a comment from every country?  Something to work towards for next July for the next Birthday Post.

Anyway, on to today's Post.

The other day I was tagged on FB (Facebook) and asked to come up with my 15 most influential authors.  I was to have 15 minutes and put them up.  I Didn't do it!
I got to thinking about it/them and I thought it would make a good Post.  Not 15 authors mind you but a few that I TRULY Enjoy.

Authors are like colors --- Many different variations to choose from and find what fits Your desires, fantasies, needs, the list goes on and on - just as the various shades of colors - to many for the eye to really behold.  We all have different tastes.  We all like things from mild to wild, vanilla to banana split, light to dark and all in between.

My FAVORITE Author of all time is Robert Jordan (R.I.P.)
     Author of many books but has become the most well known for his The Wheel of Time series.  He passed away before finishing it (such a true shame, It would have been a wonderful thing to see how he Finished HIS EPIC).  Lucky for us he left plenty of notes and with his wife found someone to finish it based upon his notes.

I have been reading The Wheel of Time series since it first came out in 1990 and have anxiously awaited the next new release, all the while re-reading what was written before.  No matter how many times I read the series I always find something NEW.  A twist I didn't see, a hint of character that makes you rethink what you had previously understood about that character.

He, Robert Jordan, has done such a job with his character building you don't find yourself just interested in the main Character, you can easily find yourself getting drawn into one of the side Characters and their story.  His writing is, in my opinion, on par with if not Surpassing that of J.R.R. Tolkien - Master and Inspirer of Fantasy Creativity (Title of my Research Paper on Tolkien).  Ten years ago I would have (and did in the Paper) placed Robert Jordan as a student on Par of Tolkien's.  Now, years later and on the verge of the End of The Wheel of Time series, I would have to say that the Student has Far Surpassed the Teacher!

I could go on and on about Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time series.  A True Fantasy Epic that will draw you into a World all of its own.

If you haven't read this series and decide to try it be prepared to keep going - You Will get Sucked into one of the Characters: Rand, Perrin (one of my favorites), Matt (another favorite), Egwene, Elayne (which my youngest is named after and a favorite), or many many others.
The Story/Epic does not revolve specifically around One Character but Several.  I have lost track of all of the different story lines going on.

Again, as you can see, I can go on and on with this Author and Series so will stop here with him, Robert Jordan.

Needless to say Robert Jordan is my Favorite Author for his style and deftness of articulate skill.

How do I continue about other Authors after that?

I do not want to do a disservice to them as they are all good, great Authors, on their own.

The Next Author on my List would be J.R.R. Tolkien -- So much so that I wrote my College Research Paper about him and Risked it all knowing that my Professor was/is a Tolkien fan and that prior to writing the paper was *WARNED*!
I got an "A" on the paper and she tried to help me get it published.  (That was interesting and a story for another day.)

Fantasy existed before Tolkien but he gave Fantasy a New Face and brought in a new fold of readers.  Tolkien created his own languages for some of the "Races" and built a world for young and old to fall in love with.  If you haven't read the books you have probably seen the movies, And to think it all started out as a Bed Time story for his Kids.

J.R.R. Tolkien put forth a new form of Fantasy writing and inspired many to write, draw, program, and even Teach (Rice University has or had a class on Tolkien).  Many, many Authors of Fantasy today draw on the inspiration and the blue prints J.R.R. Tolkien put forth in his The Lord of the Rings series.

Tolkien's format for success and depth of story created Sci-Fi as we know it today.  What a Legacy he left us all with The Lord of the Rings!

OK, I am at two out of 15.  Hmmmmmmmm?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?  Do I go on or stop here and continue this another time?  I have several more to go but would not make a complete list of 15.  Off of the Top of my head I can think of Six more Authors that you all may find interesting.



Now that is something that could be interesting to explain on a Death Certificate or in a Court of Law.

Oh, and Sorry for the tangent today but as Robert Jordan's next book is out in The Wheel of Time series and I know what I am getting for my Birthday, I just couldn't help myself once I got Tagged.

Big 12 Officiating - Where Has it Gone?

For the Regular Viewers/Readers here at Anything at Anytime, I apologize because today I am Posting a Rant about the Officiating of a game I Love, and find to be a foundation of growth for our kids in the future.

You all already know that I am a Sports Fan (specifically College Sports (College Football above all others).

On Saturday, October 30th, I was doing my usual thing (being Lazy with College Football on the Boob Tube) kicking back and Nothing but Football all day.  I watched some good games and some bad games and then got to catch the Baylor Bears -VS- Texas Longhorns.

The Officiating in this game was SO BAD that I actually went to the Big 12 Conference website and sent a Message to the Big 12 Commissioner Dan Beebe and informed him (or his representative that reads that message) that I was going to Post about the Poor/Lack luster Officiating of the Big 12 Conference.

So it is out there and forefront, I am a full blooded, whole hearted Nebraska Cornhuskers Fan.  I am then a Fan of the Big 12.  If my Team is not doing well I have always pulled for the Best Big 12 Team of the time.  It didn't matter if it was the Dreaded Sooners (my Dad's Favorite) or the Texas Longhorns (my youngest Daughter's Favorite), I always pulled for the Big 12 Team to show/perform well if not WIN!

Sports as a whole (meaning any sport at any single moment) swings on momentum and Big Plays.  If an underdog can catch a "favorite" at just the right moment the underdog turns into a "PIT BULL" - Latches on and doesn't let go.  Momentum and Big Plays change the Landscape in a heartbeat in sports.

As most Fans of any sport will tell you, there are moments where the people (and yes they are people, human just like us) officiating games make mistakes.  Take for example the BLOWN Perfect Game call during the MLB season where the Pitcher for the Detroit Tigers lost a Perfect Game because the 1st Base Umpire Blew an easy call (View my Post on that here).

Right now I am focusing on Football, but these things happen in all Sports: Baseball, Football, Basketball, Soccer, Volleyball, the list goes on and on.  Mistakes by officials happen.  They are a part of the game.

As a Big 12 Fan, even with my Huskers leaving the Conference, I am disappointed in the officiating that is taking place this year in Conference games.  It is part of the game with a few minor missed calls.  It is part of the game that one team may catch the benefit of more calls than the other team.
It is Truly Horrendous when Blown calls and Favoritism are so visible that even fans of the Benefiting team comment and can't believe that those calls have been made.

The Baylor -Vs- Texas game has set a disparaging precedent for Piss Poor Quality in Officiating.  Texas, the Darling Team of Commissioner Dan Beebe, has been the benefactor of multiple officiating Gaffes in conference play several times this year (bad part about that is that Texas isn't good enough to take advantage of the beneficial calls they are receiving).

For those of you that don't know Football (American Football) I apologize again that you are having to read this or even have to try and figure out exactly what I am writing about.

What started this?

In the Second Quarter of the Baylor -Vs- Texas game, Baylor punted the ball to Texas.  Simple enough, guy kicks the ball and the other team is to receive it and run with it as far as they can and their team starts at that point with the ball.  Now, here is where it gets difficult to follow or could be confusing for those that don't know Football, when a receiving player catches the ball in the end zone they can kneel down and not "return" the ball and it is called a touch back and that team gets the ball on their 20 yard line.  If that player catches the ball in the regular field of play and fumbles the ball in the field of play they can not regain possession and run into the end zone trying to create space to make a play and then get downed or tackled in the end zone - that is known as a Safety and awards the opposing team 2 points and gets the ball back via what is known as a free kick.  That is what took place in this situation.
Baylor punted to Texas, the Texas player caught the ball at about the 5 yard line, turned to make a "football move" and then fumbled the ball.  He then recovered his fumble ran into the end zone to create "space" and ended up down in the end zone.  Safety - Right?  Wrong!  According to the Officiating crew and the Review crew the Texas player did not have Possession and in that scenario was downing the ball in the end zone as a Touch back.
If you go back and look at the play, which I did on the DVR several times to see what where and how they could have made that call, there is NO way that the player did not have possession on the initial catch of the punt.



Then you factor in missed face mask calls against Texas, various holding calls, a few missed false starts, a call or two with not enough men on the line of scrimmage and Texas is still in the game.  This is just one game from this week.

Look at last week.  Missed calls last week in the Oklahoma -Vs- Missouri helped Missouri pull out a win against Oklahoma.  There were late hits, helmet to helmets, a couple of face-masks (not sure if one or two words so I hyphenated).  Again, as I said earlier, missed calls are part of the game, the ones I just mentioned are Injury causing calls that could result in serious Injury to either player - more so the player receiving the hit or face-mask.

Football in general is a Bruising Sport.
Big hits, missed calls are a part of the game that all of us that have played it sometime in our lives take as a given.  All Levels of the sport understand that but have been taking measures to try and improve the safety of all players, meaning if it is questionable and could cause MAJOR harm a "Foul"/penalty is to be called.  The Big 12 officials and their Overseer Commissioner Dan Beebe apparently have missed that boat especially when it benefits the Darling child of the Conference.

If, just if, you question that I am being to difficult on the Officiating of the Big 12 Conference go to ESPN.go.com and view the NCAA football pages.  Go to the game discussions for the Big 12 Conference and see what the Fans are saying about the Officiating in the Conference.  Then go compare the comments about Officiating in any of the other conferences.  The Big 12 Officiating takes the cake and from what I have seen all season the only Conference Officiating that is near the poor quality is the WAC and they are heavily lopsided towards Boise State.

Of all the major and mid-major conferences - I would have to rate the Big 12 Officiating at the BOTTOM of the Pile.  I am not a professional analyst for Sports Officiating.  I have Officiated in my past for various Basketball and Baseball games (Jr High, High School, and Independent Leagues), I have played just about all the major sports at one point or another in my life and yes, I have benefited from missed or questionable calls, Again a Part of the Game.

The Problem here is that when you have Poor Officiating Week in and Week out in relatively BLATANT view for all to see, it creates very Dangerous repercussions that could result in Major Injuries, Poor Sportsmanship, and Deliberate "Fouls".  Eventually what happens is the Officiating Looses its control.  The team (or should I say Players) suffering the calls will tend to say "If I am going to get penalized, I might as well make it worth it!"  That is not the right attitude but it does and can happen.

Is that what we want our kids, our future generations to think and act upon?  The Big 12 Conference is a very Visible Conference that is seen almost Day in and Day out on various networks covering multiple sports setting examples for our children.  Poor Officiating breeds serious lack of Control!  If your Officiating is so bad the players (not intending to but by human nature) start taking chances that could result in Disastrous repercussions, you should take steps to correct this for future games and seasons.  The Fault is not the players or the Teams (yes, they do have a responsibility to adhere to the rules) alone.  The Officiating must be Fair and UNBIASED (Poor Officiating creates Safety and Rule adherence issues).  Please, Set a Precedent of Safety and fair judgement.

Put an End to Piss Poor Favoritism Officiating!  Fine them, Suspend them, or Even FIRE them or Relinquish your Position as Commissioner if you Don't want to Police your Officiating like you should.  You Sir are the final say for your Conference.  Make things fair and Consistent it will insure that the Conference is respected and safe for the Players (of any Sport) that essentially provide the money for your Salary.

I LOVE good games.  Games where both teams put it on the field of competition and lay it all on the line are in their own way a form of art.  The Heart shown by teams/games that you KNOW you just saw something special is what Sports is supposed to be about.  

Allowing Officiating to interfere in Fair play is a Disservice to the Sport, the game, the teams involved, and the Fans (not just of the teams but of the Game).  

Rules are in place that if a Player goes beyond the rules/breaks the rules in such a manner as to be termed egregious, that Player could miss out the remainder of that game as well as be suspended from other games. Why can that same Rule not be applied to the Officials (on the field or in the review booth) in similar fashion?

Review your Officials Harshly because they are the Upfront face of your/our Conference. 

In the Message I sent you at the Big12sports.com site (the main Big 12 Conference Website) I told you that I would not want your officials officiating my daughter's Volleyball games and those are Jr. High games.  I would not feel that my daughters would be safe with your Officiating Crews.  


Officials provide our kids, the ones in your Conference and the ones that will eventually go to your conference, an example of Rules, Sportsmanship, and Fairness.  If, If You can not insure that your Officiating Crews provide Fair and Unbiased rulings on the field of play you should step down and allow someone that will make that a priority to take your place and do the Right Thing, for the Conference and Our Children.

I will be completely fair, If Commissioner Dan Beebe or his Representative desire to make a rebuttal post I would readily Post it exactly as written so that the Big 12 and Commissioner Beebe can defend its/their  definition of fair play, the Officiating crews of the Big 12 and How the Big 12 Officiating crews are instructed to interpret the rules of the game.
