  1. I appreciate your willingness to share your struggle with us. My step-mom is in her 50's with emphysema and COPD. She's still smoking. It must be an awful habit to kick. I'll be following your blog!

  2. It is not that uncommon for those who have emphysema to stop smoking. As a nurse I have seen it time and time again.
A lot of people ask why can't they quit smoking the thing that is literally killing them? Nicotine is one of the hardest addictions to stop, but however there have been some new break through for that can help some Emphysema people to stop smoking. If the person really wants to to stop and is will to ask their Pulmonologist what they can recommend to help suffers to quit the smoking addiction, it is not a habit it is an addiction. A physical dependency. I hope you don't mind a professional opinion thrown it there! Best of health to all.

  6. Hi Dan, just stopping by to see how your days have been. I can relate to the tiredness you're going through. Fatigue has kicked in with me which I've read is normal for those of us with COPD. It must be even more amplified with you due to the meds you're taking. I hope the tiredness leaves you soon!

Way to go on getting that valve fixed. Hey, activity for us is tough, but every little bit we can do helps. I went on a day trip the other day and I was just so worn out by the end of the day and into yesterday. It's amazing and sad to me to realize how the little things we used to do can be so hard on us. Take care of yourself :)

  7. When in the hospital my roomate kept yelling and pretty much treating her mom like crap. After her Mother left she turned to me and said "I don't know why I'm treating her that way." I said "She is your Mom. You know that she is the only one that could take it and still love you". Thank God for People who love us right? Hope you feel stronger and enjoy the Holidays. Blessings, Joanne

  8. Wanted to share a little word about being positive. With this condition it can be difficult to stay upbeat at times. I read a article that basically says that patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are able to achieve short-term exercise goals more effectively when coupled with some confidence building sessions. http://www.dailyrx.com/news-article/chronic-obstructive-pulmonary-disease-patients-find-confidence-helps-exercising-abiltie
    Hang in there!

  9. Hi My name is Dave and I was Diagnosed with Sarcoidosis and because they did not find it at first I ended up with C.O.P.D. and because they kept treating for sinusitis ,Bronchus or Pneumonia. Until one day my Doctor said to me that I had been to see him 9 times in a year for these reasons and he was concerned .He sent me to get X-rays and the tech was so upset he called him and asked where his patient was. Doc said at home well he should be in the hospital he has the worst case of Cancer he has ever seen result were all dark black. No doc said he is walking fine.So he made an appointment with a Pulmonary Specialist So we went to her office this was back in 2002 I was 45 yrs old at the time and worked at Public works town Gov Environmental job. When we met her and we were in the examination room she put her hand on my shoulders and said Dave don't worry it is not Cancer I can tell you that but there is something wrong and will find it.We made the Hospital apt and I realized that it was on my birthday so on that day I had a Bronchoscopy and biopsy so I got my result on my 46 birthday even though it is hard to now you have some incurable diseases but it better to know then not.My wife was told by one of the hospital staff doctors that we should get our things in order because he felt that I had only six month to a year to live. Well here it is 2014 and 13 year later and doing the best I can My Pulmonary Specialist out east told us not to listen to that doctor he is not God and the Creator is the one who has our time clocks. My wife and I moved to Indiana in 2006 where she grew up and in the area we are the Air quality is two in the States number one was Bronson Michigan just 15 miles away.. Thank you for you time and I mean it I have joined many groups like this to find new friends to talk too ans find new meds that help and other ideas but no one ever chats back or care all I know it is a tough life.
